Jobs for mid Spring

The Potager

  • with the warmer weather, sow the smaller seeds, carrots, beetroot, parsley and salads
  • Plant more potatoes
  • Earth up the potaotes as they start to appear. Be prepared to cover if there is likely to be a frost
  • Prepare the ground ready for planting out tomatoes, squashes. Well rotted manure or garden compost
  • At the end of the month, start to sow beans

The Fruit Garden

  • keep strawberries weed free


The Flower Garden

  • Continue to weed, feed and mulch
  • Look out for seedlings from perennials. Leave in place until bigger or pot up, ready to fill any gaps in the borders at a later date. Plants like Verbena bonariensis grow very rapidly
  • Sow half hardy annuals, like Cosmos
  • Spring flowering shrubs like Forsythia can now be pruned
